REFLECTOR: Seat Belts

They may not be capable of the 

high G forces, but I'm not so sure that the attach points will take the same


G loading anyway. To my knowledge there has never been a test to determine 

how strong the retainers are in the aircraft.

 

I agree.  The front attachment to the keel, which takes the force from both
the lap and shoulder belts is the weak point; and you can bet your seatbelt
that it will break before a good automotive belt.

 

I had conversations years ago with Mark Machado when he was at Velocity
about testing that attachment.  He promised they'd run a test, but I never
heard anything further.

 

I have the belts from Velocity for the front seats, and quite happy with
them.  Got the rear 4-point (actually 3, the shoulder harness is a Y) from
Aircraft Spruce.
