As Jim mentioned, the repairs are underway. I want to thank everyone for their wonderful help. I have more people to thank than an oscar winner.. Jeff, don't ever leave the reflector. I'm amazed at how many contacts you found within 50 miles of here. I had some great offers to fly to nearby airports, but after learning what the problem was, I'm glad I didn't fly. I opted for Kevin Sewell and his portable repair trailer. We began the compression test with #6 as the EGT was reading 80 C at 900-1300 rpm. When he hooked up the guages, I asked him if he did it right because it was reading 5 psig!! The hissing was clearly heard from the oil fill opening. I'm amazed how well it flew the day before. Guess that 6th cylinder is just a spare... So we put the test gauges away and removed the cylinder. All 3 rings were solidly frozen. I had noticed a few scratches in that cylinder a few months ago, but an A/P told me it didn't look that bad. And since that cylinder had a new liner just 350 hours ago, I decided it was OK. The next time I see a scratch, the cyliner is coming off. Larry, had you limited your guess to the manifold bolt, I could have given you the grand prize, as one was missing. I don't think it had anything to do with the rough idling. So I guess I'll vacation here a few more days and then continue to NY. Should be better flying weather then anyhow. The wife is not crazy about flying. Hope she doesn't decide to walk to NY..
Thanks again everyone!!

John

Talked again to John this afternoon. He was able to get a local
mechanic to come out and they discovered the #6 cylinder isn't holding
pressure so they've sent it off to be fixed and he hopes to be
airborne again at the end of the week.
