REFLECTOR: AN111 rudder cable bushing

Brian, I think that I was the originator of this method of rudder horn attachment.  I wanted to prevent the cable from twisting and the thimble from flipping overt and catching on the horn when the wind started flapping the rudders.  First I drilled and tapped the horn for an AN3 or 4 bolt (I don't remember the size) and tapped it.  Crimp the cable tightly on the AN111 bushing, use a short bolt with a shoulder for the bushing and a thin SS washer.  The bolt goes thru the bushing and washer and threads into the top of the horn leaving just enough space for the bushing to rotate.  I coated the bolt shank and the top of the washer with a little NeverSeize so it would rotate easily.

The answer to your question is that the rotation of the bushing allows the cable to fold in a curve away from the horn instead of  crimping and potentially twisting over and catching.

Subject: REFLECTOR: AN111 rudder cable bushing

I've been having people over to inspect the plane, and the last person
wanted castellated nuts on all things that rotate such as cable/rudder
horn, cable/rudder pedal, pitch trim and control stick.
I purchased drilled bolts and castellated nuts for everything and
decided to switch out my thimble in the rudder to an AN111 bushing.

Now, it's not clear to me how the bushing is supposed to keep the steel
cable from jumping out of the AN111 bushing.  Is this design correct?
It's just a little interesting to me.
