Thanks, Brian.

I called IVO and they recommend I use their wiring harness (includes circuit breaker and switch) so I've ordered that.

I don't have my charts handy, but a 20 amp breaker on 18 gauge wire
should be appropriate protection.

The issue is the voltage drop at rated current. The 18 gauge wire will
be limiting current (that's why it gets hot) at maximum load of the trim
motor. You can do the math, and come up with the drop to the motor.
double this number, because the return path also counts ... it has a
voltage rise. This is what is getting to the trim motor. If that
voltage across the motor is too low, then you'll need to go to a large
gauge wire.

variables
A = 18 ga wire, ohms per foot
B = feet of wire from battery to motor. This is round trip distance.
C = total ohms .. A * B
D = max current draw, say 20amps
E = voltage drop ... D * C
F = battery voltage
G = voltage at motor ... F - E

If G is too low, go back to A with a bigger wire. Don't forget that
connectors add to the total resistance.
