Hi Folks,
Just thinking about VGs. Pardon me if someone already mentioned this - I didn't read every post.
With non-VG'd LEZ reports of noticably worse cruise with loaded plane vs single pilot (and how velos have same problem?). Why ? must require greater AOA to maintain altitude.
And reports of exuberant climb performance improvement, aside from slower landing (Rodney Brim) speeds, and more elevator down force required in cruise, it makes sense to me that optimally sized/trimmed VGs might actually improve cruise performance.
How ? Reduced AOA = lower induced drag. In other words, with the right amount of VG, your actually flying downhill - like the up the valley - down the valley airspeed changes.
