REFLECTOR: Franklin PZL fuel pump

Ken,
I have a Weldon pump on my Franklin that came with an STC. You might get it to work on a left turning engine by mounting it on the vacuum pump pad which turns the opposite direction of the fuel pump drive. This pump has an internal pressure bypass that I had to back way off to get the pressure down to a level that would work with my carbureted engine. It might have enough hump to work with a fuel injected system.
I got my engine from Atlas Motors who had modified it for someone in Brazil to run on ethanol using fuel injection. My cylinders were drilled at the intake ports but are currently plugged. I have an annual coming up soon and can take a picture if you like.

Ronnie,
The guys at AirFlow actually built the Fuel Injection system that we're using. They were able to take a look at the Franklin drawings fuel consumption and determine that one of their off-the-shelf O-540 systems would fit the bill. Wonderful folks to work with. It does require a special fuel pump though for the higher delivery pressures.
As well - Duane tried a very similar bendix injection system on a Franklin years ago, and was never able to produce the same full static RPM as when it was carbureted. The problem is that the natural point in the Franklin engine for the injector port is on the primer-holes on the intake rails - and this leads to uneven fuel distribution. We think that we can do better this time by machining a 'standpipe' injector port for a more direct injection path.
The only guy I know of who has successfully fuel injected a Franklin and seen its full potential is a guy named Harold Peck - who developed jigs for machining injector ports directly onto the cylinders. I believe that he did the work on Jim Powell's Velocity.

Mike,
Why wait?
I bet Don Rivera and the folks at Air Flow Performance www.airflowperformance.com can help you build a system for your Franklin. They build systems for sports cars, racing boats, custom engines, stunt AC as well as Lycomings etc......
Its worth a phone call - they can tell if it can be done - or why you wouldn't want to. They know their stuff!!!

Ken,
At this year's Sun n Fun there was a franklin booth on the main drag
south west of your location. I met Greg Lucas there and he introduced me
to a gentleman from Poland (his name slipped me,(age you know)).
He said that he represented the new owners of Franklin Engines, and
that they are almost ready to restart production on the new fuel injected
350CIR engines. The only thing holding them up is the final approval of
a new crankshaft.
He (the guy from Poland) said their priority right now is to produce enough
spare parts to support the installed fleet. If you check with Greg (405-268-3925)
he may be able to put you in touch with the factory guy, which may be able
to supply you with the parts you need.
When the new engine is released, I intend to retrofit mine over to fuel injection.
