REFLECTOR: Insulation?

Has anyone tried the self-adhesive gold foil on the outside of the bakelite-type material. It's used in a lot of racing applications and the rear mounted engine  of the road-going McLaren F1 is absolutely dripping in it. If anyone is interested, it is available at www.hrpworld.com and costs about $15 per square foot.

Scott, I used a 1/16" thick piece of formica that I made tall enough to
cover the gear leg from radiant heat from the brake disc. Works very well
aat preventing heat transfer to the leg.

I made half-moon shaped 1/4" aluminum shields. Each extends approximately  7"
to the front, 6" up and 8.5" to the rear of the center, and mounted between
the gear leg and stub axle. I then connected the front and rear halves of the
wheel pants and cut them lengthwise so there is an inside and outside
section. At the same time I took nearly 2" out of the cross section of the wheel
pants. Each piece then mounts to the aluminum shield. This places a large shield
between the brake rotor and gear leg. In addition it serves as a heat  sink.
