REFLECTOR: Affect of COLD weather

How can there be a shortage of asphalt in Colorado with a shale oil deposit larger than Saudi Arabia sitting under you???

I can't think of any problems with storing your Velocity in -30 degree weather other than the battery which could freeze up if it looses it's charge. You could remove the battery and keep it with you for the really cold weather. Now, if you plan to go flying when it is that cold, then that is a different matter. You would need to close off some cooling air inlets to allow the engine to get warm.

What was supposed to be a runway replacement this summer at GNB (Granby, CO) is turning into a significant problem. The runway is gone and there is a shortage of asphalt that may preclude replacement until next year.

My Velocity is in Kremmling, CO for the summer to allow me to fly. Our winters at 8300 ft are very cold. Is there a hazard to F/G airplanes like a Velocity to stay out on the ramp in -30 degree weather? JT
