REFLECTOR: HID lamp cable length

Yes, leading edge of the canard. It's at the very end, so forces are low.

This is not a lens that is there to protect the lamp. I agree, it would
be difficult to make that curve, and the optics would be distorted.
Rather, this is a lens that is integral to the lamp and focuses the beam.

Acrylic is close to 1.5 index of refraction. So if a cylindrical rod is
used as the lens, the focal length is 3x the radius. With a target
radius of .5", that places the bulb only an inch away from the acrylic
cylinder. I'll have to experiment a bit.

I've ordered a handful of rods from .5 to 1" diameters to play with.
The HID lamp should come in in a day or two.
My fear is that the aperture will be too small.

I believe I read on the reflector in the past that someone tried to install a light in the canard leading edge and the len's radius was too sharp and it diffused the light to the point it was not effective. You might want to try your lamp with a lens of the canard raduis before you start cutting into the canard.
