REFLECTOR: Jeffco question

Grigore

I used 3/4 dia. X 3 inch wide foam rollers from Home Depot to roll on my Jeffco. These are used to paint varnish or paint finish coats on cabinets. They worked great and I didn't have any problems with air bubbles. The Jeffco almost looked like I had sprayed it on it was so smooth. It also puts it on very thin. I put three coats on my tanks before I was satisfied that it was thick enough. As for the top of the strakes, I gave them two coats a day or two before I was ready to close. I then lightly sanded and then painted the third coat minutes before I closed the tanks. This gave me a wet coat to match the wet bead of Jeffco on the top of my baffles. I also only mixed small batches of Jeffco. No more than 3/4 of the mixing cups that came with your kit. The stuff will Thermal on you if you mix any more than this. You need a partner to help you the day you are ready to close. You can't do everything that needs to be done by yourself. It takes two people to
beat the clock. You only have about two hours to close one tank depending on temperature.

Grigore,

Ronnie is right. You don't need the fillers for the coating. You are also right in that you can't mix too much of that stuff at a time without it "Therming" on you. It does cure faster and makes lots of its own heat.

There is a tool called a "Nit Picker" It is a very fine tapered wire with a little handle. It's purpose is to be able to pick bugs, lint, (AKA Nits) out of your paint before it dries. It looks like a metal cat whisker with a handle.
The tip is so fine, that you can pull things from paint without disturbing the finish (if you are quick enough).

It has such a fine tip that it makes a perfect tool for popping tiny bubbles in Jeffco while it is still wet. Bout 9 bucks at a professional auto paint supply store.

The Jeffco that I used along the top of the baffles is a different epoxy. They also have a structural epoxy. This may be where you thought I used filler with regular Jeffco.

Hope that helps.
