This is an FAA designed mess. The same thing happened to the Starship when they tried to become "certified" & certified for IFR flight. Since the Velocity is an experimental, it does not have to go through this mess!  It can be IFR Legal, without the same issues.

Subject: REFLECTOR: IFR certified?

In the December issue of Aviation Consumer, they did a review of the Columbia 300/350. In the Design & Construction section the author had information about how the layers of foam/glass/epoxy are used to build the aircraft:

“Air pressure fixtures clamp the layers together during heat curing while a thin wire mesh just beneath the skin provides lightning protection AND ENABLES IFR CERTIFICATION, heretofore a composite bugaboo.”

Does this mean our Velocities can’t be certified for IFR flight???
