Subject: REFLECTOR: auto fuel and fuel gauges

You guys that have my fuel gauges .... For 15+ years the gauges have
NOT had and problems. Until about two years ago when gas prices started
shooting up. The Mfgs of auto gasoline started putting into the fuel,
who knows what. Then Ethanol also started showing up in auto fuel.
Ethanol is a no no. I have several EZ builders who religiously test
auto fuel before transferring to their tanks and they are finding
ethanol in auto fuel that service stations are telling them its not in
their fuel !

I contacted Velocity over a year ago, and sent them a letter stating
the problem and I should send out an additional "eyelet" kit to builders
who had them. And please let me know what kits they had and I would
send them an update kit for those. No response.

I don't recommend long term auto fuel for the gauges. If you want to
burn auto fuel I recommend you put it in your tank and use that tank
right away, and/or mixing it with av gas. Letting it sit over the
winter is not good. The white plastic can get rubbery under some auto
fuel conditions. The eyelet stops the hole from swelling shut and also
makes the gauge easy to build on your workbench and install. The white
plastic is only there to enhance the meniscus line of the fuel. If you
can come up with a light shade of background material, thats impervious
to the crappy auto fuel they are putting out, then go for it.

Also, I wouldn't recommend to drill thru the clear bubble and then
repair it with JB weld. I don't know what the long term effects are for
the bond between those two materials. You wouldn't want to come out to
the hangar and find your back seat flooded fuel would you? If you need
another clear bubble, email me for the details. They are relatively
easy to replace.
