REFLECTOR: Toe brake question

I thought about this one too. At first I was inclined as you mentioned to
have them available as a speed brake. Later I decided that would be hard on
my legs and knees. I also like the idea of one rudder or the other for yaw
control in a cross wind. So I have the pivot mechanism in there and I am
happy with that.

To operate the brakes you have to press on the top of the rudder. I sure
you know that. When you first start taxing you have to tell yourself not to
deploy the rudder, and push on the tops when you need only push on the tops.
It takes a little head work and a little practice too. Either way is
reversible. Good luck.

Subject: REFLECTOR: Toe brake question

Hello All,

I'm installing toe brakes. I am inclined to leave the pivot mechanism off.
I like the idea of deploying both rudders simultaneously. That being said,
I am not flying, so I may be putting more value on this than it deserves.

I am starting to see the pivot has a dual role. It also works as a
standoff; holding the pedals away from the canard bulkhead.

Has anyone installed the toe brakes without the pivot arm? Is the tension
of the rudder spring enough to hold the pedals out? Does the weight of the
pedals (I have the cast aluminum pedals) cause the rudders to want to
deploy? Without the pivot can you deploy the brakes without deploying the
rudder?

Any feedback on any point with the toe brakes would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy
