REFLECTOR: Deltahawk

Andy-

I have been in contact with DH and below is the current status as
related to me a couple of weeks ago. (I spoke directly with Dennis Webb
& Doug Doers)

The 1st run of production engines was manufactured >1 year ago, but they
will not be delivered until the design is finalized. There have been a
few modifications after endurance testing. Each time the design is
changed, they re-do the testing. The "last" detail has been the
piston/ring combination which they have been trying to optimize wear
patterns and oil consumption. Each time they try a new combination,
they run the engine for 3 hours then tear it down and send the parts out
for detailed analysis. When I spoke to Doug last week, he thought that
the set they just got in "might be it" and they were going to run the
tests after Sun 'N Fun. The design is otherwise pretty much frozen.

They expect to receive certification spring 2009 although they expect to
be shipping non-certified engines before that, they will ship only
certified engines after that.

The engine mount design has been finalized. In the "firewall back"
package, the engine is on the mount and the radiator and oil cooler come
mounted to the engine mount on top and the intercooler on the bottom.
Looks like a nice, compact/neat installation (on the inverted engine. I
haven't seen the drawings for the upright).

Doug (Doers) is currently installing a production engine on a Velocity
(Owned by an investor). That is where I got the info about the NACA
scoops.

I have been told to expect my engine (2nd production run) by the end of
2008, but I will likely put it off a few months, so that I receive a
certified engine.

Hey Larry and Ken,

It is exciting to hear you are working on Deltahawk installations. Ken,
it
sounds as though you have an engine in you possession. You must have
been
speaking and working with Deltahawk. Can you tell us any more about
engine/delivery status?

Andy
