REFLECTOR: Top NACA Inlets

Ken-

Doug is the one who told me to go ahead and install the scoops (I spoke to him about a week ago). He is in the process of installing the 3rd DH on a Velocity (also an inverted engine). He is using the stock NACA's on top, but the aft lip is elevated to increase the inlet area. In addition, there will be a 3rd NACA midline on the bottom (for the intercooler).

Thanks
Larry

I installed the only other Deltahawk on a Velocity, other than
themselves (as far as I know). From my experience, there is no way that the
stock top NACA scoops will give adequate airflow to keep the coolant, or
oil coolers, cool. I also don't believe that it will be enough to keep the inter
cooler sufficiently cool. We had a hard time doing this as I wanted low cooling
drag and Deltahawk wanted a lot of cooling. I went with my theory to make it low
drag. I eventually (after some engine damage from heat) moved to Doug's way of
thinking and kept it cool. If you are going to go with the stock NACA
scoops, have a Plan B for changing them in the future. They use a lot of
air!!!!

Just my .02 cents.

I am about to put in the NACA inlets on the top.
(I have an older "SE" fuselage). I am doing this by cutting out the shape,
except the forward edge, then flexing the cut out down and glassing the sides.
Scott sent me a template for the shape, but did not specify the depth of the
  inlet at the aft end.

Could someone give me the depth (measured from
the outer fuselage skin to the "outside" skin or the "floor") of the inlet at
  the firewall?

This is for a Standard fuselage with a Lycoming
(actually, it is for the inverted Deltahawk, but will be using the same
  inlets)..

Thanks

AK-450 ELT from ACS to replace my old ELT. Now I need to mount an external
antenna. According to the instructions a fiberglass aircraft needs a
supplemental ground plane with a minimum diameter of 36". That is huge. I
called the manufacturer and was told that 36" was overkill. They say 18" will
do. Have any of you guys installed this unit? If so where did you install the
unit and antenna and how? Thanks for your input.
