REFLECTOR: Fuel Sight Gauge Hose

Using poly hose for a sight gauge

Well, I've I had the poly on my plane for 5 years and it seemed to do
fine. It stayed flexible and didn't degrade at all. It has started to
cloud up after 5 years so I replaced it again. total cost about $0.75 &
15 minutes. Its very possible I could just wipe the inside and it would
be good as new but I don't mind spending the $0.75 for new hose. I can
replace it with the tanks less than full without spilling more than a
few table spoons of gas, easily caught by a piece of plastic and a rag.

As far as snagging or puncturing. It's on there really snug and tightly
up against the bulkhead, very difficult to snag. We use that strake
area for bags all the time and never had a problem. To puncture the
stuff would be almost impossible. Even on purpose. Its slick and bends
out of the way if you try to stab it with a knife.

I think its a KISS solution that is almost bullet proof.

I've seen Vances gauges and they are nice but I think they would be
easier broken, they are plastic, than the tubing. A good whack with
something hard and it looks like they could crack. Maybe not.
