REFLECTOR: Reflector Digest, Vol 41, Issue 25- Float balls

I also used the float balls from Fletch air. I simply cut a small scrap of
stainless mesh left over from my wife's kitchen strainer which met its end
in service of my fuel strake construction. I put a small section in the
bottom of the tubing, dropped in the ball and put another in the top section
and attached the tubing to the fittings. I cut the scraps square and the
edges flexed against the edges of the tubing and held the screens perfectly
in place.

Hmmmm..... I've been advised by two A&P/IA's not to do that...

I put one in my IO360 every 2 years, no permetex, no leaks. Put a new
one in my TSIO520, no permetex, no leak.

It "probably" won't hurt anything.

Purchased the float balls and seals from Fletchair. (took 3 attempts
before I got them uncrushed as they were simply putting them in a
stamped envelope). The float balls are way too small to place in tubes
without the cup seals. Problem is that the cup seals are simply too
large. The 3/8" hose that we use will not fit over the seals. Anyone
successfully used these with the stock hose??? thx Tom
p.s. in the interim I'm testing small fishing floats, shellaced wood
beads and painted corks (have them all sitting in avgas)--has anyone
gone outside the box on this and tried something other than the float balls?

Take some safety wire or other springy non-corroding (stainless) wire.
Get about two inches. Make a coil in the middle like a spring.

Slip your spring into the brass fitting, and now the ball can't go past.

My master cylinders leak a few drops per day. I took them apart to
figure out where it's coming from. The best I can figure is it's the
screw that goes in from the bottom. It looks like this screw is to keep
the assembly from exiting the cylinder.

When I re-assembled them, I put a small gasket on the screw. That
didn't work.

I think the tip is bottoming out in the housing, which keeps the head
from getting tight.

I was thinking about shaving off a few thousandths of the length of the
screw. Any other suggestions?

Today marks the 2-week countdown to the Velocity University builder's
symposium in Sebastian, FL (Oct. 26, 27, and 28).
I am looking forward to hearing Sid Siddiqi, the featured speaker at the
Saturday dinner - who will talk about general aviation travel to S. America
and the use of small aircraft for personal transportation. Sid is a
familiar spokesperson for NCAM and SATS; and a true believer of using small
aircraft for personal transportation. If you have not met Sid at Oshokosh
or Sun n Fun - don't miss his intellegent and entertaining talk Saturday
evening.
Check out the latest speaker list at www.velocityuniversity.com. Doug Doers

will be speaking about the Deltahawk aero diesel engine program. Recent
additions also include representatives from Electronics International ;
Aerosonic (Op Technologies); and Falcon aircraft insurance.
There are many exhibitors that will be showing products who will not
(unfortunately) have time to speak in a classroom setting.
The wx and temps in central Florida are wonderful!
Don't miss this opportunity to meet many knowledgeable and friendly Velocity

people.
The program is currently at two-thirds capacity - there is room for about 40

additional guests to join the program.
If you have not pre-registered, please do so now by calling Art Jones at
772-589-1860.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone and having a great time!
Scott B.

Hi Brian, I believe that instead of gasket need an "O" ring. (at least in
mine was like that)
Good luck

Tom,
Here is an easy solution I used. I glued MS21042-3 metal stop nuts inside
all the 3/8"
elbow sight gauge fittings to keep the balls from entering the tanks.
See picture under FUEL SYSTEM / FUEL STRAKES / RIGHT STRAKE / 11. Fuel Sight
