This is very concerning... Who built the engine? The dry tappet clearance
is a basic assembly procedure. Without clearance, the rocker would be very
hard to install, and should of raised a "BIG" red flag. I would keep looking
and not just swap out the push rod just yet. Something in the engine is
still talking to you and your getting warmer. I think Colonel Mustard and a lead
pipe has something to do with it.
