By "all egt" do you mean a temperature probe on each exhaust pipe? I was going to just have one egt probe and 4 cht probes. Do you need 4 egt probes to determine peak egt?

I'm in complete disagreement with TEC. One cooler will do fine for a 200HP IO360 if its installed correctly.

Work on your baffling, run LOP if you have an all egt engine analyzer and you engine will do it. Make sure your nose oil cooler is tight on the upstream side, and no obstructions and smooth inside the duct on the down stream side. If you have room run one oil line up one duct and the return down the other one. All these items will contribute to good cooling.

Bear in mind that if your CHT's are running on the hot side its almost impossible to get your oil temperature down with only one cooler. But high CHT's are much much worse on your engine and high oil temps. So you want those CHT's down in the low 300's for normal cruise if possible.

The vernatherm closes to force the oil to the coolers. It's not like a auto thermostat.

IMHO, you will be screwing with the oil temp problem with one cooler, so just put in a second cooler now, and enjoy flying. I know some have "claimed" to been able to get the front cooler to work on it's own, but unless you can cruise at 185-190, your still hot. The oil is up to 50 degrees hotter than indicated in some areas of the engine. Staying just below redline may be O.K. by the book and not make any noticeable difference now, but it does when it comes to TOH and MOH times.
