Hello Scott and All,
There are a number of airframe mods planned for the Mk-I Rocket Racer. You are correct in your statement about non-disclosure - but I can say that the modifications have been done to the spars and flight control systems to give the aircraft extra strength. The Mk-I is designed to take off at 3000#. The LOX and Kerosene represent load totals more than 1,000# and is quickly burned in less than 10-minutes of powered flight. Racers will operate the aircraft by powering the aircraft for take off and climb - and will be gliding for a good portion of the race circuit. The 240 Vne is well thought out specification of the Rocket Racing League - they want the aircraft within sight of folks sitting in the grandstands. This is as much a spectator sport for entertainment as it is to advance rocket powered flight for technology reasons. The RRL believes that at some point in the future, racers will launch from local airports and reach altitudes that will take the craft into space.

Yeah a 3,000 lb gross weight is way up there huh?
It would be nice if the factory could tell us what kind of modifications were made for speed and weight increases but Scott B's been mum so I assume they are operating under a non-disclosure.

They set the speed at 275 mph, so if they can do that with no flutter problems we might look to see what mods were done to achieve that even if only for safety...... Kind of a disappointment that they are going with the tricycle version, but looks like they have their hands full with a weight issue anyway- probably they will eventually graduate to something closer to the conceptual drawings sometime in the future.

You think the factory did anything to increase its Vne to 250 KIAS?

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add "within the limits of the law," because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.
