Al;
The weights were hitting the glassed foam in the aileron pocket bottom limiting down aileron to about 2-3/8". They are 1/8" thick tire weights distributed along the top of the original counterweight. I just finished grinding out shallow pockets in the wing foam prior to glassing to restore original strength. After talking with Scott B. and Duane it was decided that this was the best solution. The pockets are only about 1/4" deep and about 4" long.
Thanks Al

The required nose weights reduced aileron travel below the 2.5" so I am considering rebuilding them lighter
Gordon;
I'm not sure I understand this. Do the weights hit the upper wing skin and limit downward travel of the aileron. Is the weight distributed over the length? How much travel do you get?
I can't see that the full travel is necessary to do a test flight, so it would seem to make sense to see if the flattened lower surface achieves improvement before doing the rebuild.
FWIW,
Al
