REFLECTOR: Speedbrake?

I fly a 173FGE and always use the speedbrake when turning base--it lets you fly a normal pattern and kills the tendency to float down the runway--especially important on short runways. I also deploy the rudders if I'm coming in high and fast. I've found that with the speed brakes and rudders deployed I can easily descend at 2000 fpm or more with ease---the plane quickly decelerates from 160 kts down to 100 kts--just reduce the throttle down to 2000 rpm.

N12WS---almost 600 hrs and going strong.

I flag an XLRG and deploy both rudders at the same
time and it creates enormous drag. Try it, you'll love
it!
