REFLECTOR: Cookout at Oshkosh

Terry,

I would advise spending some time inspecting a rented motor home!

A couple of years ago I flew out from Auburn, CA with some friends in a
Bonanza. We left the plane at Aurora, IL and rented a "Cruise America"
motor home in Naperville from a real "Bubba" rental yard. It looked O.K.,
but the first night at OSH it rained like mad, and most of the water came
right inside. Friends camping in a tent next to us were no wetter.

The next morning I inspected the roof and found the single-ply roofing slit
open along the edge the length of the motor home. Along the low side, the
way we were parked. You couldn't have designed a more effective slot inlet
for water! Apparently some previous renter had scraped the edge of the roof
against a tree branch. Everything in the cabinets and below was soaked on
that side.

I taped up the roof with some duck tape, but it didn't rain again!

Regards,

Keith Hallsten

More on OSH ideas:

Dear all,

I live in Chicago. Andy, if you are driving, you have to pass within
minutes of my house...and we have several northern IL and southern Wisc
people on the list.

I have a friend who goes up each year w/ a big motor home thing...and has a
great time and sleeps better too. Is anyone interested in splitting the
rental of one or more of these babies? Parked side by side (which means I
hear we have to get there early) we will have our camping/dinner area staked
out.

Terry

Hello All,

I know we have a while before Oshkosh, but, I have an idea. The RV guys in
our chapter go to an RV cookout each year in Camp Scholler. It isn't
formal. It's just a chance for the builders to get together and enjoy the
company.

Last year the Velocity dinner/meeting was derailed by the Hilton. The date
was changed at the last moment by the hotel. I know Duane wasn't happy.
I'm not sure the event was even held.

I spoke with Scott Baker this morning. He liked the idea of a Velocity
Cookout in the camp. They would attend and speak. If this looks like a go,
they might make it the official Velocity dinner/meeting.

My idea is simple: Cookout, brats and burgers. Not specifically a potluck,
but if you want to bring something to pass, please do. I'll take care of
the burgers and brats. Bring something to drink and a chair or two, if you
have them.

Wednesday, July 25th - Start cooking around 5:00 PM -- Camp Scholler - Map
of specific location to be published a month or two in advance.

All I'm looking for now is the interest level. Do you think you might come?
Anyone who would want to help would also be appreciated. Reply on the
reflector or personally to amillin at sbcglobal.net

Thanks,

Andy
