I can only tell you what I use and the results I've had with it so far. Although you
might be familiar with them already, I have included some of the units' definitions due to
your use of the metric system.

I use a 5 HP maximum developed and 1.7 HP running 30 US gallon tank with a maximum
pressure of 150 PSI. The air delivery rating is 7.8 scfm (standard cubic feet per minute)
at 40 psi (pounds per square inch) or 5.8 scfm at 90 psi. The compressor label states the
following: Maximum developed HP rating is the horsepower that a motor experiences
intermittently during compressor operation. Motors achieve their max rating during
compressor restarting and/or the point of highest compression of each pump revolution.
Running HP rating measures the average horsepower provided by the motor to continuously
run the compressor pump.

I have it adjusted for a maximum of 140 PSI and, at times, I have had to stop during
rather long grinding or cutting sessions. But for the most part, there is enough air to
run the tools with little interruption if I start with a full tank. Most of the tools I
have are rated between 3 and 6 CFM (cubic feet per minute) at 90 PSI (pounds per square
inch). I am sure that you can still do the work with smaller compressors as other have
said.

I have attached a freeware program (zip file) that will make these (flow, pressure) and
other conversions very fast and easy for you, as you come across them. Hope this helps
and happy building.

Subject: REFLECTOR: compressor

Dear All,

I am new to the reflector. I bought Bob Hugel's Velocity Elite RG project
(fast built wings & fuselage) and shipped it to Germany where I currently
live. I just moved it into my shop 2 days ago and am now configuring the
shop, getting the tools etc. For that matter I was wondering how big of a
compressor I would need to drive a couple of air tools (one at a time;
circular cutter; grinder; dremel). I am currently looking at 2-3 HP
compressors...

So far I have been browsing through a couple of the builders' sites that are
out there to familiarize myself with the projects and the people that are
part of the commmunity... I haven't been on a mailing list like that before
and love the concept!

I'd appreciate the input

Kind regards,

Ben Harren
