Terry:

I am building in Downingtown and have a hangar at Smoketown. I kept my first
Velocity at Lancaster. I'd love to see your plane. Please let me know when
you are going to be out at the airport and I'll stop by. Likewise, if you
will be near Downingtown, stop by. My XL-5 airframe is just about done and I
should have my engine at least next to the plane within the next week. My
wife and I are going to Oshkosh Wednesday nite thru Sunday. We will just
miss Andy's barbeque, but hope to catch up with him and other builders later
in the show.

I hope to hear from you.

Mark Riley

Sorry guys. I was not clear. The actuator starts immeadiatley. It is the
elevator that does not respond for about 5 seconds following the movement of
the actuator motor.

Chris;

If there isn't excessive play anywhere in the connections; then the only
remaining factor would be "drag" on the movement of the elevators. It then
requires some compression of the spring before moving in one direction; then
decompression and compression to get them to move in the other direction.
Perhaps you have the hinge pivot bolts tightened too much; or there is some
misalignment at the center support bushing. Without the trim connected the
elevators should move freely. Yes, in flight the air loads will "pre-load"
the elevators in one direction or the other, so the drag will not be
noticeable, but I think it best to reduce that drag so as not to be very
noticeable on the ground.

FWIW,

Al

Lou-I am in White Plains. My Velo doesn't travel out of the workshop
yet, but I can get there in about 75 min in the Bonanza. What & when?

Also could be friction caused by the torque tubes rubbing where they exit
the fuselage.

Well heck I wrote to Lou off line, but let me add in here too. I will be a
new neighbor shortly-if I don't run out of little connectors!!

My XL gets based in Lancaster, PA KLNS. I'm just outside of Hersey in the
heart of Amish country.

Terry
