REFLECTOR: Reflector Digest, Vol 43, Issue 22- Info for Aerocomposite Prop Hub

Mark,
I wish I could be more help. Harry Griswold is the sales guy and there is a
John somebody who got on the line when things were technical at all. After
you double ck w/ Rene on any exceptions that he might have incountered, I
would think that they would have the extention lengths for the both of us in
the file somewhere.

Off line I will send you my correspondence to them, but remember they wound
up manufacturing one that was over an inch too long. With all the delays, I
just extended my upper and lower cowls to match.

I think anyway they got it right after that and Rene's was correct.

Terry

Aerocomposite Prop Hub

I need help from any of you who have installed an Aerocomposite prop. Mine
is in process at the factory. They asked me for the measurement from the
prop flange to the end of the cowl. At the suggestion of the factory, I told
them that they had already done props for Velocity XL's with IO540s and that
since the airframe, engine and mount were the same they should simply use
the same dimensions as they had for prior customers.

Of course, nothing is that simple when building a kitplane as we have all
figured out sooner or later. It turns out that at least some of the prop
hubs they have provided (e.g.for Terry Miles) have been the wrong length.

My engine is currently undergoing a teardown and inspection at Penn Yan and
I can't simply mount and measure. Obviously, I can get the measurement from
the firewall to the end of the cowling. What I need is the measurement from
firewall to prop flange on an IO540 in an XL. I would GREATLY appreciate it
if someone could provide me with the measurement. I hear that Rene Dugas has
a correct Aerocomposite hub but I have not been able to reach him.

I look forward to any help you can give.

Thanks,

Mark Riley

The things that changed my mind were:

   1. Extra Build Time (Whatever time you think it will take to make the
mod for your Velo, double it!)
   2. Reliability of a known quantity. (I am flying my family here.)
   3. Resale Value. (Should I ever sell the Velo down the road.)
   4. Less Time to Fly Off (With an aircraft engine, you have a good
chance of only needing 25 hours to fly off.)

You can go on with this list. There are so many more reasons in the Yes
Column for aircraft engines vs other options it is very lopsided.
