REFLECTOR: Flight data

I made a foam model and then covered it with glass. The difficult part is to
make the entry to the chamber below the radiator not too great an angle.
Try to get it down to 8-10 degrees. Dave B

Dave,

I'm also interested in your scoop, as I will have one for my intercooler,
turbo and misc plumbing. Right in the exact same location.

If the reflector is still down, I will gladly put the pic up on my server
and give you an address.

How did you build it? Sculpt it out of foam, cover it and then remove the
foam?

Scott

I will try to put a pic of my scoop on the reflector. It is an opening of 3
x 15" and has 1" clearance below the lower fuselage. It extends 4" ahead
of the cowl cut and is mounted on the lower cowl. All the air enters it and
goes up through the radiator and goes out the standard rear exits. It
works very will plus I have a fan on top of the radiator to pull air through
on the ground. I control the fan with a switch so I am in control and
operate it independent of any temp control. I live in Texas and it works.

Dave,
Do you have a photo of the belly scoop?

On a specially built test stand my Chevy V-8 was putting out 350hp to the
prop. I have the GM 383 performance engine with a gear drive at 1.73 to 1.
My fuel system is built by Airflow Performance. It is mechanical. I run a
dual MSD ignition system. My prop is a MT three-bladed electric constant
speed recommended for the Velocity V-8.
T.O. RPM Prop 2750, engine 4750
Climb prop 2500, engine 4200
Cruise prop 2100, engine 3750 fuel 15gph, tas 175
Cruise prop 2300, engine 4100 fuel 17gph, tas 185
cruise prop 2400, engine 4200, fuel 18.5 tas 195
Some of the RPM numbers arent quite correct but they are close, as I am
using my ancient brain cells. My Chevy has run great and my cooling
problems ended when I put a belly scoop on the cowl for my radiator.
