I use trailer hitch electric 12 volt connectors... The male part is mounted 
flush and has a nice little spring loaded door with a catch to hold the 
female part of the connector from falling out...

If you are referring to the cigarette lighter style, I am using 161-1365-e
from mouser.com.  If you are looking for a different style: mouser, newark,
digikey, etc.
