REFLECTOR: remote oil filter

Greg,

The Canton/Mecca remote oil filter is a race-car product, so you will find
it at speed shops. They have a variety of screens and filters, but those
are not the typical spin-on filters that are generally available at
neighborhood auto parts stores. They use a drop-in element that's specific
to the Canton/Mecca filters. I am using a small Canton/Mecca filter as a
fuel filter (with the appropriate type of filter element). See for example
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecId=185

There are several manufacturers of spin-on oil filter adaptors, both for
on-engine mounting and for remote mounting of standard aircraft spin-on
filters. See for example
http://www.bandc.biz/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?20X358218

Regards,

Keith Hallsten

Thanks for the heads up on the Canton oil filter Larry,

Can you please be more specific about which Canton product you have in place

as they have so many units/options I am unsure where to look?

Has Jim A. got any pictures (I know he likes to share his finds) so that I

can take a look? Am keen to get a unit that will handle the common filters

available down here - what auto engines did yours relate to? ...and you are

running a Lyc aren't you Larry?

Greg,

Jim Agnew put me on to a better mouse trap. Check out Canton Racing at

cantonracingproducts.com. I use the CM remote canister filter, #25-106. I

have it mounted on the firewall which allows the element to be removed

without spilling a drop of oil. Another nice feature is that the element

can be examined by pulling off the end flanges and slitting it lengthwise to

check the inside for crud. It costs $80 US.
