Al,

 Do you have enough time on the engine to see what the fuel burn is? I have
heard that one downside to a

rotary is the fuel burn goes up. Have you found that to be true?

 Jack

Jack;

It's on the list for the next flight to get at an approximate fuel burn.
Engine monitor is not yet calibrated to give a good number. I do have data
that we got on the dyno.

Power Cruise    5000 rpm (2300 prop) - 200 hp    18 gph   BSFC = 0.54
lb/hp-hr

Lean Cruise      4500 rpm (2075 prop) - 155 hp    13 gph   BSFC = 0.49

    5000 rpm WOT           - 222 hp   19.2 gph  BSFC = 0.52

Much the same consumption rate as a good aircraft engine; not as good as a
typical automotive piston engine.  This, of course, is with 87 octane mogas;
so compared to avgas - or even 92 octane - $/hr is at the low end. Based on
actual flight data, 4500 rpm gives a TAS of about 180 mph on my SE RG; and
14 mpg isn't bad at that speed.

Al.
