Hey Steve,
I wouldn't be so quick to change over to that Lycoming! Have you talked with
Susan at FRANKLIN ENGINE COMPANY ~ www.FranklinParts.com
<http://www.franklinparts.com/> They are located in the central part of
Texas, USA. I've never had a problem getting parts for my 6A-350C series
220HP. All the parts are brand new and get to me in a timely manner and my
engine is one of the old Polish PZL units. Susan is factory trained i.e.
knows quite a bit herself and she has got a tremendously knowledgeable
Franklin mechanic/machinist on staff, ask for Jerry.
I'll bet either Susan or Jerry would be able to answer the starting / fire
issues many of you are currently discussing.

I only pumped the throttle whilst the engine was being cranked - no
problems.
Re; the crankshaft seal oil leak - mine went away after I plumbed in a
second cooler and got the temps down.
I agree that the Franklin is a great engine although I did managed to
destroy an entire cylinder (my own fault and a long story).
I tried desperately to get spare parts with little success.
I could find some used parts but not a con-rod and I managed to put a
slight bend in mine.
The 'new' Franklin mob in Poland could not help as they only rebuild
timex engines and build up from used parts.
In the end I have opted for a rebuilt Lycoming. Means a lot of work to
fit but at least parts are available.
My Franklin has been stripped down and checked. One complete cylinder is
history but the rest of the engine is fine.
I plan to put the other 5 cylinders and the rest (vane fuel pump, mags
crankcase etc etc) on eBay.
If any Velocity drivers want first pick, send me an off-reflector email.
(The engine has 64 hours since new).
