REFLECTOR: Aeroquip hose

Scott,
I'm not that familiar with the types of hoses you mention, but I believe
that Aeroquip "Aeroflex 701" is a rubber hose used with aluminum fittings,
equivalent to "Stratoflex 156". I used "Stratoflex 124" Teflon hose with a
SS overbraid, with swaged-on SS fittings. I had Sacramento Sky Ranch make
my hoses, then I installed firesleeve over them.
Sky Ranch has some information on hoses on their web site:
http://www.sacskyranch.com/aircraft_hose_links.htm
One key difference between "aircraft" Teflon hoses and "automotive" Teflon
hoses is that aircraft hoses have an electrically conductive liner. The
Teflon for the aircraft hoses is formulated with carbon black, which results
in black inner liners. That assures that high voltages cannot build up on
the liner, allowing arcing to melt little holes in the liner. We create a
lot of static electricity slipping through the air, resulting in the
"potential" (pun intended) for high voltages along the hoses.
Bottom line: make sure the hoses you plan to use have black liners, not
clear or translucent "natural" Teflon.

I was going to use Aeroquip AE701 hose which is the replacement for
Aeroquip 601 hose for fuel and oil lines..
I noticed all the racing shops, Summit, Chief's, ect carry an Aeroquip
hose called AQP which has identical pressure, temp, ID, OD and lifetime
specs as aircraft 701 hose. Also the AN flare fittings for this hose
are 1/2 to 1/3 the price of AN flares from AS or other aircraft supply
houses.
Is this AQP hose just 701 with a different name? Anybody using it for
primary fuel and oil lines?
Scott
