REFLECTOR: Severely rough-running Franklin

No.  I did not warm the oil.  Just pulled the drain and let the oil flow out.  The engine ran normally last time I flew, though.

Did you warm the engine before you drained the oil?  Just checking to see
that the problem did not exist before you changed the oil.

You can check this by doing a pressure check on the cylinders.  If you have
a leaky cylinder and you can hear the air coming out through the exhaust
pipe, it's probably a sticky valve.  On a Lycoming, you can see the
offending valve stem by removing the exhaust pipes and looking in through
the exhaust port.

Sometimes a sticky valve will unstick itself after the engine has warmed up.
Then it starts running smooth again after maybe 5-10 minutes.
