Steve, my Jeff Rose which has the pick up mounted in the left mag hole, is
set at zero degrees. There is a small hole in the face of the pick up
housing. A 3/32 pin (like the pull pin in a small pop rivet) is inserted
until the holes line up - when the crank is at TDC for cylinder #1.

I believe the Jeff Rose flywheel mounted pick ups are set at zero degrees
too.

True, the installation of the pick up is installed at zero, however, Steve
is still right. Unlike a magneto, the electronic unit has the 25' BTDC built
in. This makes installation easy for most by just setting at TDC. Don't
worry about which piston is TDC. A magneto does not have the advance built in
so it is installed at the BTDC desired. If running 10-1 pistons, this advance
should be reduced to 20' BTDC. With a electronic unit, this means usually
installing it at 5' PAST TDC. Check your particular unit's instructions to
see what advance is built in, and set accordingly. The electronic timing is
checked with a strobe light and the manifold pressure disconnected from the
unit. This defaults the unit to it's internally set (no advance) timing.

Use auto plugs on the electronic unit. Much better than 50 year old
technology, and cheaper too. Don't clean them (auto) just pitch them.
