Thanks Simon for that glimmer of hope for the corridor.
BUT here in Chicago the other side of that coin is Mayor Daley. Da mayor has already gone on the news Thursday, frothing at the mouth (literally), about the dangers to the citizens of Chicago from any single or twin engine airplane, and how they should "be forced to fly 2 or 3 miles out over the lake [under a class B tier at that] or way out west". He's already destroyed Meigs Field, a world icon of aviation, and folks, he's not going to stop there, not for a minute. He's going to exploit the NY tragedy for all its worth.
All politics are local, and you can join midwest pilots at the front line in fighting one of the biggest threats GA has every seen.
PLEASE join or donate a few bucks to Friends of Meigs at tp://store.friendsofmeigs.org/membership.html. Help keep FOM alive to fight the good fight. It's not over yet, and the future I see is that we'll all need a Friends of our Airport, wherever we are. Help keep this a national concern.
I'm not a politician nor a public speaker... but I can sign a check. Glad I'm a member of FOM, AOPA, and EAA, and Canard Aviators and the Velocity Reflector of course.
Best Regards,
Jeff Barnes,

I think it's important to understand the other side and why they're saying
what they're saying. NYC was attacked five years ago, so it's different
than your home town. Check out the following link that talks about
politicians wanting to close down the corridor:

One of those politicians is Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is a private pilot.
The article says that he believe the skies are safe under the current rules.
Since he is an asset to our cause, no doubt AOPA and private pilots are
rallying around him to keep the sanity. I think that once the public is
"taught" to understand that it was an accident, not a terrorist act, they
will allow the VFR corridors to stay the way they are.

Caught the postings this morning -- you can imagine what my last 24 hours
have been like. <g> The note to lawmakers is always good, but equally
important is using the comment boxes all these news outlets have on their
websites. It's quick, easy, free and you can get your point across. It's
also good for them to get reaction from private citizens, not just the
aviation organizations, since the news outlets expect us to react in support
of aviation. But your comments combined with the efforts of EAA, AOPA and
other alphabet organizations can help.
Best to everyone,
Dick Knapinski
