REFLECTOR: Reflector Digest, Vol 30, Issue 65- Door finishing

I drove myself crazy for about a week doing the finishing around the doors.
I would fill it, make it perfect and come back the next day to find high and
low spots all over. Then I realized that it was because I was also fine
tuning the gear at the same time and my bottle jacks would bleed down
overnite and put weight back on the fuselage/gear changing the flex of the
door.

One good tip I got for the gap was to put 3 layers of masking tape on the
door and flox right up to it. When you pop it open and sand, you get a
perfectly even 1/16 gap. FWIW

Hello all,

I'm doing some of the finish work on the fuselage. I have been warned not
to do the fit on the doors until after the engine has been hung. I'll wait
for that.

Could anyone with the experience let me know how the fit will change when
the engine is on? Where will the doors bind? Where will there be gaps?

Can I do the finish work around the strake/arm rest portion before I hang
the engine?

Thanks,

Andy

Does anyone know if you can pull multiple leads off of CHT probes, EGT
probes, and Oil Temp to feed two different engine analysis systems. I have
a Vision Micro system VM1000 and now a new Grand Rapids EIS. I would Like
to use both as back up but would also like not to have to install duplicate
CHT, EGT, oil temp Probes. Thanks Tim

Ours didn't bind, but what was in contour went out of contour, both recessed
and protruding in different spots. Mostly near the top from what I
remember. Gap didn't really change. Only thing I remember that happened
with the strake was the radius didn't match anymore at the intersection of
the door and strake along fuselage side. The strake still matched up.

Gordon, I understand that the ailerons get very hard to operate above 160
kts which might indicate that the wings are flexing enough to rub against
the aileron torque tube if there is not sufficient clearance. Maybe some of
the others have some ideas as to why they would only bind at high speed.

Let us know what finally fixes the problem. I understand you did a beaytiful

job on the build.

Gordon, Steve mentioned this when I talked to him yesterday and mentioned
that you were going to remove the aileron "fences" to see if that made any
difference. I assume it didn't, since you wrote. I know that there was
another V that changed the position on the aileron crank which made his
controls very heavy as well, so I'd suggest you try moving it back to the
factory recommended position to see if it makes a difference, although 3/16"
isn't very much. I assume that the control cables move smoothly and that the
anchor connection inside the cabin is per specs.

Could the VG's ( in front of the aileron) have any affect on the air
loadings on the ailerons? I've never heard of any problems, but they are
designed to keep the airflow attached longer to the wing which could
conceivably load the ailerons.

Hi Gordon
Most light aircraft are rigged with equal or more up than down ailerons
deflection.
down ailerons causes more induced drag like the flap. This could cause
adverse yaw.
the manual calls out for 2.5 up and 2.5 down.
we lower the hole at the cable attaches about 1/2 inch.and make sure the
cable is at 90 degree angle to the horn as viewed from the side.
regards
Mack
