REFLECTOR: Insurance while building

Woops....should have read further posts before my posting on household
insurance! My experience matches Scott's.

It's pretty hard for an insurance company NOT to pay out if "it" (the pile
of beloved airplane parts) is specified in the policy!.....but lets' face
it....the premium paid is well in excess of the odds that you will likely
burn your project - after all, they (insurance companies) are in it to make
money aren't they? (having said that I am aware of one Velocity builder in
DC that had his house catch fire...)

Why not check and see if it can be covered within your existing household
policy like I did mine down here? It's not an aeroplane till it lifts off
the ground - just a pile of expensive hobby parts! I'm amazed at the
willingness of so many builders to take out separate very expensive
insurance (understood if it is not at home) whilst building.

All I did was nominate as separate household items along with the art works
and antique furniture. The insurers were not at all concerned as long as it
was nominated with a value.

I just got my kit also. The carrier covered the kit while in transit.
While building, I have a policy with Falcon. Speak to Jim Nelson
1-866-647-4EAA (4322). Needles to say, I found him through EAA. I am
paying $400/year for up to $40,000 for the plane. No liability or medical.
Seemed reasonable to me as long as I get it done within 50 years which is
within the current plan.

I'll second Ronnie's comments. Not much electrical experience before
reading Aeroelectric's book but manage to wire and now fly a dual bus, dual
alternators, all glass panel, so I would give much credit to Bob. Basically
followed the book, and other then my own bonehead mistakes, everything
worked fine.

Terry,

Assuming fairly low current annunciators why not put them on both?

is the best way to insure it during transportation and during the building
process??

Thanks

Craig,

It is Greg Richter that owns BMA.

Mounted and flew AeroComposite prop 2.5 hrs of 5 hr fly off this
weekend. Gained 300 fmp climb at 25 squared and 8 knts in 23/23 cruise
from 172 knts indicated to 180 knots IAS without the spinner on.
Workmanship is beautiful but mounting hardware for spinner is now over a
week late in delivery. It was left out of the shipping container with
the spinner. Prop was two months later than promised but it does look
and work very well.

Question: The AeroComposite has a rpm limit of 3000 and an overspeed
limit of about 4000. I was thinking of increasing my engine rpms up
from the 2700 of the MT to 2800 or even 3000. That is still very low
rpms and should get better climb out on take off. Thoughts?

Rene'
