REFLECTOR: Modeling Velocity dynamics

David Ullman ullman at robustdecisions.com

Ron Brown wrote and noted a flight simulator model. Has anyone modeled the
Velocity in the daVinci AirplanePDQ code and played with the aerodynamics?
Does anyone have the information to do such modeling (eg, weights, moments
of inertia, aerodynamic coefficients, airfoils etc)? I have an MS in
aircraft stability and control (i.e. enough knowledge to be dangerous) and
am very curious in the aerodynamic design of the Velocity since I am
building one.

Is the type/configuration of the door lock on the pilot side fairly
standard, at least for the ones that have a keyed lock? Mine is about
3/4" is diameter. I didn't know if this was something that Velocity
carried or if locks are just converted from other uses?

Chuck,

I ordered a replacement from Velocity about a year
ago. Mine is recessed flush so I wanted the exact same
size. Cheap and painless...

That sounds like mine and I'll do the same.

Thanks

Ron,

I have FS 2002 also. Could you send me the files for a Velo model - or let
me know where they can be found.

Thanks,

Actually, after sending the note, I fired up FS2002 and lined up on 18R at
CLT, which is a 10,000 ft runway. The model does pretty good at lifting the

nose, and you can land and hold the nose off down to about 50 knots. But
again, this is not the same as real flying (but pretty good for
learning!!!).

Is there anyone at Addison that would be willing to show their Velocity to a

couple of friends of mine?

Thanks,

I have the same Auto Pilot. I think the Century has difficulty
overcoming the Velocity pitch trim arrangement (its very stiff).

I was thinking about changing the pitch servo geometry to give the
Century a bit more mechanical advantage.
This is all on hold whilst I replace the engine.

Does anyone have experience or references about these governors?

http://pcu5000.com/index.htm

They list Velocities in their application charts for experimental aircraft.
