REFLECTOR: FAR Part 61.31(e)

Mack is correct. The FAR's exempt pilots of experimental aircraft from needing a high performance or complex endorsement. The Velocity factory insists on those who come to Sebastian for flight transition training have one of the two endorsements because it is a good idea. Insurance companies write their own rules - and may require a high performance or complex aircraft endorsement before initiating coverage.

  subject
  Type rating requirements
The Velocity can never be considered complex because it does not have flaps 61.31(e).
It may be considered high performance if an engine is more than 200 HP, (f)(1)
Check out 61.31 PAR (K) EXCEPTION (iii) The holder of a pilot certificate when operating an aircraft under the authority of an experimental aircraft type of certificate.
Most insurance company's do not of this exception.
  Regards
  Mack
