REFLECTOR: Dream Panel

Anyone out there considering the Garmin 430/530 should re-consider and
look at the Garmin (480) CNX-80. This is the better unit and is already
WAAS certified and operational. I currently fly 1 of these in each of
the aircraft in my flying club. It is a beautiful unit which is MUCH
more capable than the 430. It's menu's are logical. It will control the
GTX330, including Auto activate/deactivate at any pre-set speed and
display traffic. I have it connected with GPS-s and our Arrows &
Bonanza's fly the (IFR) GPS approaches/Holds and routes perfectly.

Scott;

Panels are subject to a lot personal preferences, but two things come to
my
mind:

I think the S-TEC is a very good unit, but is overpriced; particularly
when
you add the additional cost of the analog-digital interface required to
drive it from a GPS. Both Trio http://www.trioavionics.com/ez_pilot.htm
and TruTrak offer much more affordable units that take direct digital
coupling.

The money saved will cover the additional cost of the Garmin 330 Xponder
which I think is well worth it for the traffic display feature. The
reduced
stress and added safety of knowing where, and at what altitude, the
other
traffic is in a radar coverage area would be a big factor to me.

The owner of the T210 I fly every now and then wants to upgrade his
radio
stack. Pretty much every thing is 25 years old and being removed.

He has asked me to put together a complete package for IFR flying. With
Sat WX capabilities. He wants to keep the 6 pack instruments which
include an HSI.

Lots of folks on this list have completed their panels and I wonder what
they would think of my selection.

Here's my list from top to bottom

1.) PMA8000B PS Engineerging Audio Panel/Intercom : he wants to be able
to
plug in his IPod and tap into the XM Sat music

2.) MX20 Garmin MFD : to display Jeep View charts, XM Sat weather,
etc..

3.) GNS480 Garmin GPS/ILS/COM :

4.) SL30 Garmin NAV?COM : backup for GNS480

5.) GTX327 Garmin Transponder : I thought about the GTX330 but wondered
if it was worth the $$$

6.) 55X S-Tec Autopilot : 2 axis, GPS, GPSS, ILS

7.) GDL69 Garmin Sat Weather reciever : Anybody using any others? good
stories or bad?

8.) 106A Garmin CDI : backup for HSI

thanks,

Scott
