REFLECTOR: Thermocouple Calibration

I have a digitally controlled soldering iron like this, but I don't know
how to accurately couple that heat to a thermocouple.

Yup, the solder pot would either hold an alloy that melts at a specific
temperature, or would have an accurate control. Problem with a solder
pot is that even a cheap one is $75, plus the solder or alloy.
