I used Jeffco on my Velocity tanks and the stuff is fantastic. I used the recommended cap strips put the eopxy and glass fibers on top.. then weighted the things down. I only had 2 small leaks that were harder to find than fix.
Using a big party balloon inside of another one (then filled by a compressor) gave me the pressure I needed to find the leaks. Then I just mixed up some Jeffco and some cabbo, and sucked it into the leaks via the fuel vent line in the tank.

I ended up cutting the tip tanks apart on my cherokee 235 and fixing them then resealing them with Jeffco... worked great!

Fuel Guages, I have the factory sight guages, but also put digital ones in my panel. They are hooked to westach probes in the tanks. You set the zero percent, then the full (100%) and it reads out 0-99% on the guages.

Jorge, a professional V builder showed me how to seal my tanks that has worked very well for me for 6 yrs. When my tanks were done, but before I closed them (put on upper strakes), we made a peanut butter mixture of cabo and epoxy, then spread it over the inside tank surfaces. It filled every pinhole and has never leaked. We used a plastic body filler squeegee and applied a very thin layer.

I've used Jeffco tank sealant on 4 airplanes the same way you've just described. Lancair's use it as standard practice. I like it a lot.
