Joe,

I'm pretty sure have the old style strut. I have a 1997 Std RG and it
had the old style. I don't think that means it "has" to be replaced, but
on your next yearly inspection I would remove it and do a thorough
inspection for cracks, especially around the gusset. If you find
evidence of cracking replace it. During the inspection I would recommend
replacing the pivot bushings with the new XL style bushings. It adds a
tad more weight but really beefs up that part of the retract system and
is a simple and quick job.

You can call the factory and verify that an inspection vs. replacement
is OK.

You can tell the difference very easily. The old style gusset was two
triangular flat plates. The new style has the plates folded over like a
"taco". I think their is a picture in the archives..

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add "within the limits of the law," because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.
