REFLECTOR: moving...

I rented a 26 foot Penske truck. Everything fit except the spar, which
bonded to the firewall. It was hanging out, turned at a 45, resting on bags
of very fine hardwood mulch! Tarped the rear and drove. No damage was
incurred. Not ideal, but it worked. I have seen a photo of a car hauler,
jigged so the spar was at the rear, straight up and down. It rested on the
hauler. The nose was jigged into a cradle and the whole thing was ties down,
perfectly horizontal. Avoids all of those pesky load laws. I will see if I
can find the photo.

I was a SP back in the 70s. Miss the noise.
Matt

I am in the USAF and have been working on my 173RG for years. Unfortunately
I may have to move again with the engine, strakes, etc. done. For the last
move I took everything off and Dan Fast and I loaded it up at a 60 degree
angle in his trailer, worked okay but don't want to take it apart to that
stage again, too much backpedaling. Has anyone gotten a trailer and done the
"oversized load" long distance? Care to share the experience, problems, etc?
I would search the archives if I could figure out how. Thanks for any help.

Here are 2 pictures of the one I built. I designed it so I could easily
spin the fuselage around in my 2 car garage and re-level it by myself. It
has 4 jack screws in the corners to jack it up off the casters. After
leveling it a few times I got to know just how much I needed to adjust it
for a perfect level. I used a digital level too. I could spin and re-level
it in about 20 minutes. It was very accurate and solid as a rock.

Can anyone point me toward pictures of some of the best designed fuselage
cradles? I know there have been pictures of them, but for some reason I
can't find them now...

Thanks,

Robin
