REFLECTOR: Pedal stops

I had a similar experience... on a cross-country I was stretching my legs
and to get enough "stretch", I had worked my feet down behind the pedals.
Flying along like that and hit a severe (but short) downdraft. I had my
belt secured but not real tight and as I levitated towards the top of the
canopy, my toes yanked backwards on the pedals breaking loose the left wood
stop block (glue joint) and letting the rod come out of the master cyl. I
did not realize this had happened. Upon landing and trying to apply brakes,
I found I had only the right brake. There was a some cross-wind component
but fortunately it was from the side where I could correct with the one
working brake. Taxiing to the ramp with one brake was a "unique"
experience! I soon gave up trying and shut it down and my son and I pushed
it on in.

Hi Al,
I installed them (1"x2" wooden block) because I didn't want to chance the
brake linkage pulling loose then having no brakes.
I saw a friend of mine run off the run way in his nearly new Tiger when one
of his brake push rods came disconnected. No damage but scared the poopy
out of him and me too. We found that the still functioning left brake also
had its lock nut not up against the adjuster. It was about to fall off too.
So I decided I wouldn't take a chance that the link bolt didn't come
disconnected in my Velocity by being pulled backwards.

I wondering about the need for rudder peddle "stops" rather than just
relying on the end of the cylinder stroke. Any experience without them?
Thanks,
Al
