The tools should not get much glass inside of them unless you keep them on
the floor of the shop - they should only receive clean air from the
compressor which constantly keeps the insides clean- if you do not oil them,
you can expect them to fail fairly quickly- and besides they come with oil
inside of them anyway when you buy them, so unless you dissemble and soak in
alcohol, there will be some oil present- I use a small shot of liquid wrench
before each use- run the tool on high speed for a few seconds so clear out
any excess and ready to go- I can tell you from experience that piston
operated air tools (air body saw, recip sanders) won't last very at all
without oil, the rotary tools will run longer, but will fail also, because
they run at high speed and the bearings need oil- I have never seen any
traces of any oil on any part that I have worked on, but if you are really
paranoid, use a dremel and an electric saber saw - you will finish your
plane eventually.

PS: the factory uses air tools to put together the fast builds and I am
pretty sure that they oil them- Scott Baker can chime in here if I am wrong
about that...

I would suggest that you not oil the tools - they can get oil on your parts.
The HF tools are cheap enough - one just uses them until they fail - then
get another. They still last a long time.

<snip>

Your air tools will eat themselves up from the fiberglass dust so Harbor
Freight tools are good enough. No warning just screech and stop!!

As far as the oil-less design- probably would be a good idea, although none
of mine are- the air tools need oil so looking for oil free air is sort of a
waste of time until you get to painting then you can install a filter.

I got most of my tools through harbor freight- have had the stuff working
for years so quality is definitely good enough- you can get the sanding pads
and disks from McMaster Carr.
