REFLECTOR: Elite Door guides

I will have to see if I still have any, since I
sold my project and sent my pictures with the
project.
However, You can do the following.
Prop the door open to the height that you want.
On the fuselage, mark the center between the
hinges and then drop a plumb bob from there. Step
back and "eye ball" where the line matches the
door frame. That would be where you attach the
bracket. That is the center of the door with
regards to the door. The door will close on
center and open on center. I know that when I did
my strake to door, it was a very close tolerance
and there was no rubbing. However, I never hung
an engine, so I do not know if this will change or
not. As far as the gas strut that I used, I went
to an auto shore and looked for one that I could
compress. If you look through the archives, there
should be mention more about this and the gas
spring that I used. I also believe that there was
mention regarding someone else that purchased one
with stronger force.

Thanks Bob,
Do you have a picture of this? It might help.
Thanks,
Andy

If you open the door and align the attach point on
the door so that it is aligned right between the
hinges, then the door will open and close without
moving forward.
With the door open and stand back. You will be
able to move the attach pint up or down the door
frame so that when looking at the open door the
attach point lies right in the middle of the
hinges.

Larry,
It sounds like you are referring to the gas spring
configuration outlined in the current manual for
the Elite doors.
This configuration was first shared in the Views
by a builder who came up with it to eliminate "the
bulge"
but it is now in the manual. You'll know if you're
using this configuration if the springs try to
keep the doors closed for the first few inches of
travel before going "overcenter" and then pushing
to keep them open.
This configuration works great for fixing the
bulge, but the bottom of the doors can still have
a tendency to push forward or back (usually
forward) which is what Andy is trying to deal
with.
Now that you mention it though, i do remember
messing with the fore/aft angle of the gas
springs. I either moved/reversed/shimmed one or
both of the attach brackets, changing the angle of
the gas spring, to help the door alignment.
