A few years ago I had an engine fire (minimal damage.. ) and the "experts" 
who helped me figure it out believed that one of the major factors related 
to possible cause (we never did know 100% how/why it occurred) was the lack 
of a sniffer check drain.   I bought one at an airplane wreaking yard in 
Minneapollis and installed it before I flew again.
