Ronnie

I am trying to understand your comments on the "aileron differential
throws" and the relationship to "approach angles" ( also what is a 90 or
135 degree approach angle) . Can you expand your comments for a
"Newbee"???

Thanks

Len

There are three of us flying off of 14A, which is 3000' paved and between
the tall pines.

There is a IO550 XL, a IO360 and M/T Std wing/std, and my 173 RG with IO360
and Catto 66 x 70", All three of us will tell you that is about as short
as
we want to use!

Re the wallowing, mine handles fine on short final - I have VG's and I did
some work to get the aileron differential throws in the right direction
(more up than down). The approach angle that Brendon writes in the manual
has got to be 90 degrees when the aileron is UP. When the aileron are
down,
the approach is more like 135 degrees. This helps prevent adverse yaw when
the aileron is down. MHO! My 173 handles about as well at low speed as
my
172 did with rudder only needed when things get gusty.

There is at least one V that flies off a turf field down in Alabama (I
think). I believe the field was more like 4000', he said it is indeed
rough
on the prop but he's happy.
