Yes - I'd say there are about a dozen V173 aircraft with the IO-540D (narrow
case, parallel valve, stock 260hp model) and at least one with the IO-540K
model (heavy case, angle valve, stock 300hp). Velocity, Inc. has an engine
mount/installation kit for the 260-hp version. Most installations require
ballast in the nose to satisfy W&B concerns. I've seen weights differ from
20# to 50#. If you plan on using a 6-cylinder, place as much equipment as
you can in the forward nose compartment. Moving the battery even a small
amount forward helps. Be sure to use the XL size NACA cooling system if you
are using the roof top vents.
The engine installation is a tight fit. Some cowling modifications will be
needed.
